AS a public service provider, the council is always under the scrutiny of the public - and rightly so. The staff who work to uphold the rules and regulations that keep us safe can be easy targets for criticism.

Our Rangers work extremely hard to uphold the law.
People might feel confronted when they see a Ranger, but I can assure you they are friendly, good people simply doing a job. One of their daily tasks is to monitor road safety near school zones to make sure everyone gets home safely.
Recently they went to Oak Flats to hand out pamphlets about traffic changes including a new children's crossing and new drop off zones. If you see the Rangers out and about, feel free to say hello and ask them any questions you have about safety matters.
Just as the outdoor crews were beginning to make a dent in mowing across our city, we have been advised to stop mowing a number of areas to treat the noxious weed, giant Parramatta grass, so it can be treated in a few weeks. Equipment breakdowns and the damp, warm weather have meant hundreds of outdoor green spaces have become overgrown.
Staff and management are working on improving systems to reduce the height of grass across the city.
Senior members of our community are invited to the trivia competition, part of annual Seniors Week from 13 March.
Last year the Shellharbour team won the trophy and we don't want to let it go, so contact HACC staff on 4257 9036 for details.
Our young people can always join in some of the many activities being run by our library services, including the Manga Anime Group (MAG) for 12-19 year olds to draw, watch anime, read manga and plan special events.
It's held a couple of times a month from 6pm-7.30pm.
