Last week, Shellharbour MP Anna Watson said the Minister for Roads Duncan Gay had directed the RMS to update its traffic study of the area which was last carried out in 2012.
Ms Watson said she wrote to the minister in December asking for the study to be updated.
"I drive along there every day and you can see that congestion, especially in the afternoons, is just getting worse and worse," Ms Watson said.
"I wrote to the minister asking that the traffic study be looked at and he's agreed that's a good idea, so hopefully we'll see something come of that to improve the situation."
Ms Watson believes a traffic filtering system such as the one used at the Princes Highway at the northern end of Albion Park Rail should be installed at the roundabout where Lake Entrance Road and Pioneer Drive meet.
The system would see the roundabout superseded by traffic lights during times of heavy traffic.
"The system works well at Yallah and as the population in our area grows, our roads are going to get busier and I think that sort of system would do a lot to help in this situation."
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said the government would be carrying out a traffic study to understand traffic volumes and queue lengths at the intersection of Lake Entrance Road and Pioneer Drive.
He said it was expected to be conducted midway through this year to provide information for potential improvements.
