Kiama MP Gareth Ward said that the state government is funding the $329 million Princes Highway upgrade at Gerringong to improve road safety and traffic flow.
Work to connect Fern Street to the new bridge will be carried out from February 9-13, weather permitting.
Fern Street will be closed between Rose Valley Road and Sandy Wha Road, from 4am on Monday, February 9 to 2pm on Friday, February 13 for work to be carried out to improve flood immunity.
A 250-metre section of the southern approach to the bridge on Fern Street will be raised about 500mm to connect to the new Omega Bridge and access to Gerringong will be via Belinda Street during this time.
“The new Omega Bridge will open to traffic on Friday, February 13 and will remove the railway level crossing, improving safety for motorists,’’ Mr Ward said.
“During the Fern Street closure, access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained between Sandy Wha Road and Boxsell Oval as needed.
“Access to Rose Valley Road will remain open from the Princes Highway.’’
Motorists travelling from Rose Valley Road to Berry should access the highway via the northbound on ramp and travel north on the Princes Highway to Weir Street at Kiama for southbound access to the highway.
Road users need to allow around eight minutes additional travel time.
Some night work may be needed to reduce the length of the closures.
Motorists are advised to follow all temporary signs, speed limits and traffic control measures.
