A BERKELEY man has been arrested after an alleged assault at Kiama.

According to police, on Sunday evening the victim had a few drinks at the Kiama Inn.
Just after 9pm he left the hotel and sat on a seat across the road waiting for a taxi.
Shortly after the accused approached the victim and punched him in the face.
The victim returned to the hotel to report the matter.
Police were already in attendance, approached the accused and told him he was under arrest to which he allegedly replied, ‘‘I’m get up and knock your head off’’ to police.
The accused stood up in an aggressive manner and police grabbed him by the arm, to which he attempted to pull away.
Police conducted a leg sweep on the accused, causing him to fall to the ground. Once on the ground, the accused continued to struggle by thrashing around.
At one point, the accused tried to bite a police officer’s boot.
The accused was handcuffed and taken to the Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with assault and resist arrest.
It was believed that the accused was well affected by alcohol and drugs at the time.
The 33-year-old is to face the court at a date to be determined.
