During the next week, the municipality will celebrate the annual Kiama Show at Kiama Showground, starting Friday, January 23 and concluding on Saturday.
Meanwhile, on Monday, January 26, we celebrate Australia Day.
As a special tribute to the centenary of World War I and the tradition of Anzac, the Kiama Show committee has added two special pavilion competitions.
The public can enter Anzac biscuits in the cookery section and those with a green thumb can try and win the special display of flowers commemorating the Anzacs.
"The Kiama-Jamberoo RSL Sub-Branch will be sponsoring both classes as a way of showing our support and we thank the Kiama Show committee for their support," Kiama-Jamberoo RSL president Ian Pullar said.
"I believe Member for Kiama Gareth Ward, who is a great supporter of our sub-branch, will be judging the Anzac biscuits, while one of our members, Harry Spritz OAM ED Capt (T/Major) RAE (Rtd), will be judging the floral arrangement."
The 167th annual show will be officially opened on Thursday night by NSW Minister of Primary Industries Katrina Hodgkinson.
It is sure to be filled with highlights, from the pavilion displays to the entertainment, Showgirl announcement, horse and cattle judging, show jumping, rodeo, sideshows, woodchopping and pet show.
The show will conclude on Saturday night with fireworks.
The focus will switch back to the community on Australia Day, with a huge number of events planned.
Kiama's celebrations, with the assistance of the council and Kiama Rotary Club, will centre around Coronation Park at Surf Beach, with a barbecue from 7.30am to 10am and traditional Aussie entertainment like thong throwing and egg and spoon races commencing at 9.30am.
One of the day's big highlights will be the Citizenship Ceremony at the Joyce Wheatley Community Centre from 11am.
