Designer Trent Jansen, Doctor Erin Martin, surf star Sally Fitzgibbons and Australian rugby league twins Brett and Josh Morris were recognised for their achievements since leaving the school.
Retiring Kiama High careers adviser Steve Heinecke praised the five on their contributions to the school as both ambassadors and role models.
“They probably don’t realise it, but every time one of our students walk into the foyer outside the office and glance at the photos and resumes on the wall, they are providing something that our students can aspire to,” Mr Heinecke said.
“Some schools are regarded as sports high schools or selective high schools, but we consider ourselves as a comprehensive high school and we are proud of what many of our students have or are achieving.”
World-famous art designer Trent Jansen said it was amazing to return to the school and see his name up among so many high achievers who have come from the school.
“When I went to Kiama High most of the achievers were in the field of sport – people like footy player Rod Wishart and surfer Todd Prestage, but to look at the wall now and see such a wide array of careers is very gratifying.”
Australian, NSW and NRL star Brett Morris also said it was a real thrill to be recognised by his former school.
“It’s a huge honour and I have a lot of really good memories of going to Kiama High School and to be recognised for what I have achieved is great,” Morris said.
“I have a lot of mates who have gone through Kiama High also and love the idea that the school continues to provide students with encouragement to pursue their careers not only in rugby league, but also other sports.”
