On the weekend of January 10-11, the Albion Park showground will unfurl into a hive of activity as the show takes to the grounds offering a variety of activities.  

Visitors can participate in camel racing, racing pigs, the rural challenge, demolition derby and the annual show girl competition. 

The can also dabble in the good at the market stalls, food stalls, farmyard, rides and watch motor bike stunts, the ute show, pet show and six rings of horses. Albion Park Show Society secretary Marilyn Connelly said they were still on the hunt for demolition derby and show girl entrants.

“The derby has been running for almost 18 years and this year we are looking for 30 entrants on the Saturday night to take part,” she said.

“The last man standing at the end of the derby will be the winner and will receive a first prize of $700.”

Ms Connelly said the Land Show Girl competition winner would get the chance to be the ambassador for the event and would go on to represent Albion Park at a zone final.

Shannan Pastrovic is the first entrant in next year’s contest.

“We’re looking for a representative from the area between 18-25 years-old,” she said.

“This is not a beauty quest. It is someone who has learnt or is learning about local affairs; local issues and knows a bit about the area itself.

“Each entrant will be judged by a three person panel on their personality and life skills. It’s virtually a job interview.

“All contestants will be asked to attend the show on Saturday and Sunday and they will be sashing prize winners in the show events.”

Ms Connelly said entry submission were due a week before the show and the winner would be announced on Saturday night at the show.
