Construction of the $39 million station started in October 2013 to replace the soon to be old Dunmore Station.

Following debate on the naming of the station it was named Shellharbour Junction last month.

The station includes a 105-space car park, bus bay, four "kiss and ride" spaces, a taxi zone, bicycle racks, CCTV cameras and lifts. 

Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian said the station would serve the region's growing communities; Shellharbour, Shell Cove, Flinders and the surrounding suburbs.

Kiama MP Gareth Ward said the new station would offer far more than the old Dunmore station.

"The problem with Dunmore is that when the North Kiama Bypass was constructed it seriously curtailed access to the station," Mr Ward said.

A new bus route - Premier Illawarra's No. 52 - will run between the station and Flinders, via Shellharbour Village from November 24.

A spokeswoman from the transport department said there would be some changes to the timetable as a result of including Shellharbour Junction station.

Northbound, the 3.07pm weekday Nowra to Kiama service will depart all stations four minutes later and the 9.15pm Kiama to Wollongong service will leave one or two minutes later at stations between Kiama and Dapto, one minute earlier at Unanderra and Coniston and arrive at Wollongong at 9.55pm.

Southbound, the 4.52pm Bondi Junction to Kiama service will depart Coniston, Dapto and Shellharbour Junction one to two minutes earlier, while the 7.22pm Central to Kiama service will leave stations between Albion Park and Shellharbour Junction one to three minutes earlier.
