The 2014 i98fm Camp Quality Convoy celebrated its 10th year with a huge turnout as hundreds of trucks, motorbikes and other vehicles took part in the annual Illawarra event.
Last year's event raised a total of $1,191,816 in funds and took the grand total to over $4.3 million since the inaugural event in 2005.
The convoy departed under police escort from the West Cliff Colliery, down Mount Ousley through Warrawong and past Stockland Shellharbour and finished at the Croome Regional Sporting Complex, Albion Park.
People power fueled the lead vehicle in this year’s Convoy.
The People’s Truck is the brainchild of Gerringong resident Derek McMahon, owner of Albion Park Rail-based McMahons Transport.
The People’s Truck was launched in 2011 with hopes of raising $20,000.
In 2011, it raised $43,276.20.
In 2012, the People’s Truck doubled their fund-raising, and on behalf of hundreds of donors, handed $86,000.20 over to Camp Quality.
Last year the truck raised $102,640.80.
Mr McMahon’s wife Nicole said the Kiama community actively supported the People's Truck, partly due to the pair formerly having a business in Kiama.
The People’s Truck was the lead truck in this year’s event, having raised $192,000 from community registrations (totaling about $128,000) and bids from various trucking companies at last week’s auction.
