Every month the aircraft station will open the hanger doors for three days at the HARS headquarters located at the Illawarra Regional Airport. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 14-16 the the first open day event will run from 10am – 3pm.
The open days will be held outside the hangars and involve a static display of some its distinctive aircraft.
Members of the public will be able to board and sit in some of the aircraft including the cockpits of the F111 fighter bomber and Neptune submarine hunter. There will also be guided tours of the aircraft on display.
HARS president, Mr Bob De La Hunty said they would be displaying different aircraft each month depending on operational commitments and visitors could also view aircraft undergoing maintenance.
"We hope that this HARS initiative will satisfy the large demand we have to show off our fleet,” Mr De La Hunty said.
"Weather permitting the November open days will showcase the F-111 Fighter Bomber, and visitors will be able to walk through the iconic DC4 Airliner which is undergoing significant restoration work.”
Mr De La Hunty said many visitors in the past had wanted to see and photograph some of the aircraft outside and this was a good opportunity for that.
Mr De La Hunty said the open days were a great destination for families, aviation enthusiasts, bus tours and school children alike.
The event is dog and child friendly, however dogs must remain on their leads.
Admission is $10 per adult and $2 per child which includes on-board visits and cockpits sittings.
Open days will be held on the second Friday, Saturday and Sunday of every month between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
