Ms Watson said the government had indicated it had not determined a final use for the station and she would call on the minister to hold a community consultation on the stations future.

“I wrote to the Minister for Transport, Gladys Berejiklian, about the future use of the Dunmore train station buildings and site in August. The Minister sent me a response earlier this week stating that, Future uses of the existing Dunmore Station buildings have yet to be determined,’’ Ms Watson said.

“The state government should avoid falling into the same trap of ignoring the community’s wishes following the naming fiasco of ‘Shellharbour Junction’ station over the last 16 months.’’

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said they would be consulting with various groups to determine the future use of Dunmore Station following the completion of Shellharbour Junction.  

“Our focus at this point is completing the new train station for customers at Shellharbour Junction,” the spokesperson said.

Ms Watson said she would urge the minister to begin a comprehensive community consultation process in parliment. Ms Watson said that Dunmore would be included as part of the Shellharbour electorate following changes to NSW electorate boundaries for the March 2015 State election.

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said, ‘‘rather than maintain an empty asset, it is my view that we should seek to give this building a new life where it is needed.’’

“Like all disposals of Government assets, we will ensure this is done in a proper matter. Unlike Labor who were more interested in looking after the interests of Eddie Obeid.’’
