This Sunday, Shellharbour City Council and the NSW Government will support Shellharbour Rotary members to clean existing graffiti.
Mayor Marianne Saliba said graffiti vandalism was a major problem which cost local businesses, households, the state government and the council millions of dollars each year.
"The purpose of Graffiti Removal Day is to highlight the problem of graffiti vandalism and encourage people to get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti," Cr Saliba said.
"Rotary and Shellharbour council are committed to combating graffiti, which is why we are proud to be working with the NSW Government and great sponsors such as Dulux, Selleys, Brookfield Johnson Controls and Smart Graffiti on this event."
Local Rotary Club member Patrick Giles encouraged the public to support the event by volunteering their time to help remove graffiti or nominate a clean-up site.
People who volunteer will be supplied with cleaning material, paint, safety equipment and training on how to safely remove graffiti.
Those unable to attend can still support the event by promoting the day on Facebook, Twitter or telling their friends, family and work colleagues about the day.
A list of clean-up sites is available from graffitiremovalday.org.au.
