Snell was announced as the winner at the competition’s presentation night last week.
Snell finished the season with 83 points after a barnstorming end to the year, that featured him finishing in front of Gerringong’s Nathan Ford, who had led the count for much of the season.
With five rounds remaining, Ford looked like he would make it back-to-back Gerringong players to take out the award when he held a 12-point lead over Snell.
However, the versatile Shellharbour forward finished the season with maximum points in his last five games to finish ahead of Ford on 60 and Nowra-Bomaderry five-eighth Steve Brandon on 54.
Snell put his late form down to necessity and personal motivation.
‘‘I started playing some good footy; I made rep, then I thought I might have a crack (at the medal),’’ he said.
‘‘We had a lot of boys injured, so I knew I had to step up my game and help out the boys as much as I could.
‘‘So I just lifted every game and I tried to play 80 minutes as much as I could.’’
Snell’s impressive season has also seen him pick up a contract with St George Illawarra feeder side the Illawarra Cutters for 2015.
‘‘It’s every kid’s dream to play in the NRL and I’ve still got that dream,’’ he said
‘‘You never know; I’ve just got to keep doing what I do and hopefully I’ll get there.’’
There were further honours for Nowra-Bomaderry’s Ryan James who, following his Man of the Match performance in the Jets’ grand final win, received the Roy Stewart Rookie of the Year trophy.
Shellharbour Stingrays grand final hero Josh Check claimed the Athol Noble Trophy as the Third Grade Player of the Year; Jack Parrish was named under-18s Player of the Year and Cheyanne Hatch took out the Women’s League Tag Player of the Year honours.
Warilla’s Aaron Henry was named Representative Player of the Year.
Warilla, Group 7 and Southern Division coach Peter Hooper received the Harold Alcock award for outstanding contributions to the game.
