The students swung their hips and learned the steps of zumba in effort to raise money for Catholic Mission projects in Jamaica.
School principal Frank Wafer said more than 300 kids would take part in the event and simultaneously learn about some of the issues Jamaican people face every day.
“This is not just about raising money, but also generating awareness, “he said.
“There are parts of Jamaica that experience high levels of violence, drugs, poverty and poor housing, as well as high levels of crime related to guns, knives and gangs.
“The money from today will go directly to those people working in Jamaica so they can use it constructively for the work they are doing on the ground.”
The mission will donate the proceeds toward developing violence prevention programs, buying land for a skills centre and school facilities for children.
Stella Maris holds creative charity events every year raising money and awareness for a variety of countries in need.
