About 4.40pm on Thursday, October 9 police were patrolling south along the Princes Highway, Albion Park when they observed a vehicle to be swerving from lane one into lane two without indicating, causing vehicles to swerve to avoid collisions.
Police stopped the vehicle and allegedly could smell a strong scent of alcohol coming from the accused, a 62-year-old Oak Flats woman.
She was subjected to a roadside breath test, returning a positive result and being placed under arrest.
At Lake Illawarra Police Station she stated that she commenced drinking at 8.30am and concluded at an unknown time.
She stated to have been drinking sherry straight from the bottle.
A breath analysis returned a reading in the High Range PCA category.
Her driver’s licence was suspended and confiscated by police, and she was charged with the matter to appear before a local court.
*Warilla man charged with drug possession in Warilla
About 10.45am on Monday, October 6 the accused, a 25-year-old Warilla man, was riding a bicycle south along Barnes Street, Warilla.
He was stopped and spoken to by the police for not wearing a helmet.
When asked, he handed over his backpack for police to search, and inside police allegedly located a small jewellery pouch containing a clear resealable bag with a crystal substance.
Police asked him further questions about the white substance.
He said it was crystal meth and that he bought it.
The accused is now charged with the matter before the court.
*Barrack Heights man attacked by off-leash dog at Windang Beach
About 12pm on Sunday, October 5 the victim, a 30-year-old Barrack Heights man and the witness, a 30-year-old Barrack Heights man, were walking their dog, a German Sheppard along Windang Beach in the off-leash area.
A large black and white muscular dog charged at them and tried attacking the German Sheppard by grabbing it around the neck.
The victim and witness have tried to get the attacking dog off when it attacked the victim by biting his right calf, causing deep lacerations. .
The dog let go, and the male responsible for the attacking dog got hold of it, apologised to the victim and provided contact details.
The victim left the beach and attended a medical centre.
The incident was reported to police and Wollongong City Council rangers who will continue the investigation.
The breed of the dog was identified as a “Bull Arab” and registered with council. *Barrack Heights man damages property at Service NSW Kiama building
At 12.01pm on Thursday, October 9 the accused, a 20-year-old Barrack Heights man, attended the Service NSW building on Shoalhaven Street, Kiama in relation to a driving test appointment.
Upon arrival, he was met at the front by the witness who checked his name and paperwork and stated that he was late for the appointment and as such would not be able to complete the test. He was advised he would have to re-book for another date.
The accused became angry and walked out through the front entrance on to Shoalhaven Street.
A short time later the accused walked back in through the front door and began to argue with the witness about the matter.
He was given further advice on completing the test, and again became angry and walked out through the front door, punching the glass sliding door on the way out.
No damage was caused.
The accused re-entered a third time and spoke with the witness again.
At 12.14pm the accused walked away from the witness and out towards the front door.
As he passed the front customer service desk and ticketing counter he punched a computer monitor, causing it to smash.
This incident is under investigation.
*Mount Warrigal man stopped on petrol-powered bicycle
About 9.30am on Tuesday, October 7 police saw the accused, a 21-year-old Mount Warrigal man, who they know and have personal knowledge of being a disqualified driver travelling south on Landy Drive, Mount Warrigal.
At the time he was riding a motorised bike which consisted of a mountain bicycle frame with a petrol powered engine fitted to the frame, a petrol tank fitted to the top crossbar and a fuel line running from the fuel tank to the engine.
There was also a chain attached which lead to the rear wheel.
The bike was incapable of being pedalled as it had no chain attached to the chain ring where the pedals are.
Police stopped the accused, who stated he was coming back from his sister’s house.
The bike the accused was riding is incapable of registration in its current format and has never been registered with the Roads and Maritime Services.
The accused is a disqualified driver until May 2015.
The accused was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice.
*Petrol powered bicycle rider stopped at Shellharbour City
About 12:25pm on Wednesday, October 8 police were patrolling Lake Entrance Road, Shellharbour City when they sighted the accused, a 33-year-old male from Currarong, that was known to police, riding a motorised bicycle up a hill without a helmet or pedalling. Police observed the motorised bicycle to consist of a mountain bike with a petrol powered engine fitted to the frame, a petrol tank fitted to the top crossbar and fuel line running from the fuel tank to the engine with a chain attached to the rear wheel.
The configuration of the petrol powered bicycle was incapable of registration as presented and has never been registered with the Roads and Maritime Services.
The accused was also a disqualified driver until 2017.
At the time of the offence the accused was travelling at a speed estimated to be about 30 kilometres/hour and was wearing a push bike helmet.
The vehicle he was using is classed as being a motorcycle and as such he should have been wearing an approved motorcycle helmet.
The accused was aware that he was not permitted to ride those types of vehicles on a road having being advised by police, including the informant in this matter, on numerous occasions.
Legal action is being taken to put the accused before the court.
*Expensive sunglasses stolen at Bass Point
Police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are warning beach-goers not to leave valuable items unattended while swimming, following a timely reminder after an incident at Bass Point, Shellharbour.
Between 12.30pm and 2pm on Monday, October 6 unknown person(s) stole the victim’s sunglasses.
The victim, a 23-year-old Mount Warrigal man had placed his personal belongings, including the custom designed Oakley brand prescription sunglasses, black in colour with a red logo, valued at $700, on a rock while he went snorkelling.
When he returned to the location the property had been stolen.
Police wish to remind the community that thefts from public swimming spots can be prevented and people should never leave anything of value on the beach while swimming, running or doing anything out of sight of their belongings.
*Mobile phone theft at Kiama
About 1.15pm on October 2, two 15-year-old boys from Kiama and Curramore attended Coronation Park, Kiama.
At this location the victims placed their mobile phones amongst their clothing on the headlands before entering the water for a swim.
While in the water an identified person has approached the victims’ belongings and stolen the phones.
When the victims returned to their clothing they were unable to locate the phones.
While the victims were searching their clothing a witness approached and informed them that he had seen a male hanging around their clothing.
*Gerringong roadworks accident
About 2.20pm on October 2, a 67-year-old Ulladulla woman was driving a Subaru Forester north along the Princes Highway at Gerringong, in the roadworks zone.
For an unknown reason the driver swerved sharply crossing into the single southbound lane, causing the front of her vehicle to collide with the front offside of a Mitsubishi Triton being driven by a 44-year-old Kiama woman.
Both vehicles had significant damage and required towing.
The Subaru also rolled forwards, hitting a Toyota Hilux roadwork vehicle that was parked and unattended at the location, causing damage to the off side of the vehicle.
Both drivers were conveyed from the scene via ambulance; neither with any obvious serious injury.
Police investigations are continuing.
*Stolen property located in Gerringong
About 2pm on October 1, police attended the residence of a young person they wished to speak to in Gerringong.
Upon arrival police spoke to the 15-year-old’s mother.
Police were led to the boy’s bedroom where a large quantity of DVD’s, video games, GoPro equipment and a number of other items were located. Police were then led to the garage where boogie boards, skateboards, a wetsuit and fishing gear were located.
None of the property belonged to the young person or anyone else in the family. All items were seized and taken to the Lake Illawarra Police Station.
Police estimate the total value of the stolen items to be more than $6000.
