The school also hopes to recover a long-lost time capsule as part of its celebrations.
Former students include cricketers Brett and Shane Lee, musician/actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Olympian Karen Lord and her brother and fellow-star swimmer Gary, Paralympian Brett Stibners and renowned scientist Dr Justin Yerbury.
The school will host a reunion of former students at The Shellharbour Club on Saturday, September 15 from 6.30pm.
The school’s careers advisor, Les Trist, who has taught there since 1976, said they hoped to locate and dig up the time capsule.
‘‘A few of us can remember burying it, but we can’t remember where,’’ he said.
‘‘A former student, Donna Nicholson, sent a map and directions of where she thinks it is.’’
On the day prior to the reunion, the school’s 820 current students, aided by staff, will dig to see if the location is correct.
They also plan to create another time capsule to be unearthed on the school’s 100th anniversary.
Year 10 student Emma Greenwood, whose great-grandfather helped build the school, has created a website covering its history; she believed a school uniform would be found in the historic treasure trove.
Fellow year 10 student Jake O’Dea, who has had about 10 family members attend Oak Flats High, was confident they would locate the capsule.
He predicted the capsule would include photos.
The school will also host an open day for former students on the Saturday from 10am-2pm.
Tickets are still available for the reunion event; phone 42561888.
