The star midfielder-forward played every game in the 2014 season - including three finals - and polled in all but two.
The award completed a great year for the 26-year-old, in which he also won All-Australian selection for the first time and the prestigious AFL Coaches Association Champion player of the year award.
Gray beat Port captain Travis Boak, while four-time best and fairest Kane Cornes was third and forward Justin Westhoff fourth.
Throughout the 2014 season Gray's form kept improving and he was third favourite for the Brownlow Medal on the eve of the count.
He averaged 28.3 disposals and kicked 15 goals in the last seven games of the season, including four during the second half of the comeback semi-final win over Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.
