In a bid to help raise funds for the global Destiny Rescue organisation, the members of Shellharbour City Community Church will dust off their fine china for a special ladies’ high tea event on October 18.
Destiny Rescue is dedicated to rescuing the children from human trafficking in five nations – Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Burma and India.
Event organiser Kay Lucas said every cent raised on the day would go to the charity and to helping small children as young as five and six gain back their freedom.
“I can’t imagine what they go through, these children, it is so horrific,” she said.
“It is unbelievable that in this day and age human trafficking can be so rife and getting worse. From previous charity events, this year we have helped 200 girls get out of the situation.
“The money goes towards the rescue process of tracking down and locating the children, covering legal fees and their removal’’ and therapy.
The high tea will take place at Shellharbour City Community Church, at 500 Shellharbour Road, from 2pm. Admission is $25 (or $15 for students) which includes a large selection of homemade treats and tea.
