The fund will help him take his place in the NSW Country under-18 team to tour Spain next month.
Shellharbour resident Sorrell, who turns 18 the day before the touring party departs, said the $1200 from the fund helped make the tour more affordable.
"It is an unbelievable help and made a huge difference for me," Sorrell said.
The NSW Country team will play six games during the tour, and the talented fly-half said the biggest challenge would be the final game against the Spanish national under-18 team.
This will be the second time he has travelled overseas with rugby, having previously toured New Zealand.
"I think the first five games in Spain will be against regional or state teams, but the final one, against the national team, will be the real highlight," he said.
The fund provides financial aid to athletes to help with transport and accommodation when competing. Fund chairman Don Briggs said they were delighted to be able to help such bright young talent.
"Ryan's success is our success and we certainly wish him a successful tour," Mr Briggs said.
