Every year Wakakirri search for the best story-dancers across the country and Tullimbar students won the 2014 Best Story of the Year accolade for their performance, ‘An Australian First-Ned Kelly Restored’.
Ninety one students participated in the event and they will represent the region in the competition to win the national ‘story of the year’ title.
Tullimbar primary teacher and co-item coordinator, Sharon Ryan said the students were ecstatic when they found out they had won the award.
“We have been participating in the competition for the last three years and this year we were really lucky to have received this special award, the kids are very excited,” she said.
Participants are to perform a three to seven minute story performance on stage using a blend of creative movement and acting. More than 20,000 students take part in the annual event across Australia with more than a million people watching the performances.
Wakakirri director, Adam Loxley was on hand to present the award on Tuesday (September 16) and said each story from participating schools were judged within their region.
“From here a national panel will judge every story/performance from the regional winners and overall winners will be selected on October 16.”
