The premature erection of signs on the platform of the new station to service Shellharbour Local Government Area sparked controversy again this week.
The newly painted orange signs read “Shellharbour Junction”, however the formal approval and finalisation of the name is yet to go to before the Geographical Names Board.
A GNB spokesperson said no decision had been made regarding the proposed naming of the new station and the board was due make a decision on Transport NSW’s submission at the next Board Meeting (tonight).
Debate around the name for the new station comes after the GNB rejected the proposal to name the station Shell Cove and Flinders.
Transport NSW said the sign was put up in error and they were working with the GNB to finalise a name for a new train station and transport interchange.
