Members of the Uniting, Catholic and Anglican congregations of Kiama, Jamberoo and Gerringong joined together and were led by Reverend Robert Buchan (UCA) in song and prayer.
Reverend Buchan spoke of his uncle, who despite losing a daughter, a son and a daughter-in-law in the Bali bombing, forgave the terrorists.
The group prayed specifically for peace in war ravaged parts of the world but also prayed for peace locally.
Reverend Buchan said the group prayed for Christians suffering persecution in Iraq and other parts of the Middle East as well as praying for Muslims in Australia who suffer because of the actions of Muslim extremists in other parts of the world.
This event will be followed on Sunday (the United Nations International Day of Peace) by a peace pilgrimage through Kiama involving all the churches ending up at the Blow Hole where the group will again pray for peace.
The pilgrimage will begin at the Catholic Church in Manning Street at 11am. For further details contact Reverend Robert Buchan on 4263 3355.
