Volunteers from Albion Park fire station joined other volunteers in the Illawarra, to open the station doors on Saturday for the annual open Day.
Superintendent Richard Cotterill said the day was a great way for local residents to get to know the volunteers who protect their community, all year round.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community to discover more about the role volunteers play at all types of emergencies, with many brigades holding practical demonstrations,” said Supt Cotterill.
“It’s also a chance for residents to understand the bush fire risk in their area and what they can do to better prepare themselves for this bush fire season.
“For children and adults alike, it’s also a chance to learn valuable skills on how to protect you and your family from bush and grass fires.”
