Born in Kiama on March 29, 1926 Patricia Kathleen Moss was born into adversity as her mother passed away when she was only 10 weeks old.
This left her father with three small children, Basil (5) whom he raised, Madelin (2) who was adopted by an aunt and baby Pat was placed in the care of Mrs Anderson, who had eight children of her own, but didn’t hesitate to accept her.
She lived happily until Mrs Anderson passed away when Pat was five and her father then arranged for a Mr and Mrs Chapman to adopt her. The Chapman’s gave her a good upbringing and she grew up to be a happy young lady with the usual teenager’s interests.
Pat's 21st birthday was celebrated in the Progress Hall in Minnamurra and a full account of the party for over 60 guests appeared in the Kiama Independent of May 7,1947.
Following Pat's schooling at Bombo and Wollongong, she worked in Kiama until she took up a position in the office of DeHavilands in Sydney.
When DeHavilands relocated to Bankstown, Pat returned to Kiama, as Bankstown was too far to travel daily.
Pat then met prominent Kiama sportsman Bill Burton and they married in 1949.
Bill was an excellent rugby league for Kiama and later served as president of Kiama Bowling Club for eight years.
Following Bill's death, Pat developed health problems which necessitated a triple bi-pass operation in 1994 and another in 2001, both of which she recovered from.
She had many good friends in Kiama Bowling Club and was captain of some very successful bowling club darts teams.
