The community group’s members are preparing for their debut pantomime, Fair Share Fiascos: Penelopen and Her Garden Men.
The free community event will be staged at Barrack Height Community Garden on September 28, 2-4pm.
Volunteer and artistic director, Tamar Stanford said the idea of the pantomime was to showcase the community garden but also open up the space for creativity.
“We wrote the script based on the values of permaculture and also to show people that this is more than just a garden, but a place for creativity as well,” Ms Stanford said.
The pantomime aims to highlight the importance of permaculture as a way to grow nutritious food without the use of chemicals and promote self-sufficiency for the community.
Program co-ordinator at the garden, Darren Bell, said the pantomime idea had grown into a community venture.
“Underpinning the pantomime is engaging the community to learn about sustainable living practices and healthy eating,” he said.
The audience is promised a colourful garden-themed show with a cast of more than 15, plus a flash mob singing about compost, face-painting, hot soup made from ingredients in the garden, wood fired bread, tea and coffee.
The event is funded by Shellharbour City Council and also supported by Access Community Group, Pineapple Painting, Dinah Doll and Gary Birdsall of Surfart.com
