From feedback to our group it is evident that this aspect of the development lacks community support and the council should engage with the community about alternative uses that would complete and enhance an aged care facility-seniors living complex of this scale. To date our group has been an advocate for a large range of possibilities in this area.
It has been stated that the need for a residential subdivision is to assist in the viability of the project. The net return on land sale of $1.5 million to $2m is a very minor amount on a $55m project with the revenue and business certainty assisted with such a facility.
The decision to alienate 20 per cent of the site to gain this amount is baffling. The council does not need to sell this land.
Furthermore, we understand that funding for the restoration of Barroul House has been accounted for in the land transfer negotiations.
A public meeting is required to discuss the matter and give the community a voice on determining the best use of this portion of the site. We hope to provide further advice soon.
