In Australia, there have been significant changes to aged care services since July 1.
The changes aim to introduce sustainable and affordable aged care for everyone. Aged care is designed to offer more choice.
Warrigal will host an information session on September 9 to make residents aware of new aged care laws and options for later-life services.
Warrigal follows the philosophy of "older people having the opportunity to be themselves and to be independent, respected, happy and connected focuses".
The facility has been providing aged care service in the Illawarra since 1964. Warrigal has since expanded its services beyond the region and into the Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands, Goulburn and Queanbeyan.
Individuals who need to access aged care for themselves or a family member are invited to the upcoming information session. A team of consultants will present the changes in law in a "comprehensible manner" and hold a question- and-answer forum after the presentation.
Early last week Member for Kiama Gareth Ward addressed the Warrigal Village residents to outline his vision for older people.
He fielded questions from the Warrigal audience related to village budgets, the new Opal transport tickets, and traffic issues throughout the electorate.
Warrigal chief executive Mark Sewell said they were very keen to see older people remain connected to their community. "It's one of the reasons we don't have any gated villages, instead encouraging community interaction at every one of our inspiring communities. Inviting the local member in to meet residents to have their say is another way we assist people to stay involved in civic issues."
Warrigal recently received $17 million from the state government's Restart NSW funds for the construction of its newest village at Shell Cove.
