The Salvos turned its attention to the preparation of a professional will and hosted Community Will Days throughout Shellharbour recently.

The will days were an effort to relieve some of the confusion and anxiety associated with making a will and the Salvos charged $50 for will preparation, which would go into a funding pool for the organisation.

Program co-ordinator Graham Cooke said the Salvos teamed up with local solicitors who donated their time for the event.

"As society grows and new cultures emerge we need to reinforce the importance of having a professionally prepared will," he said.

"It is your opportunity to have your last say about what you want done with your possessions after you've gone. A professional will prepared properly is the best way to ensure your wishes are followed.

"Wills can be contested, but if prepared properly and professionally this can be minimised."

Mount Warrigal's Robyn and Raymond Northey said they were "relieved" after preparing their first will.

"We thought it was the right time to prepare our will because we are getting older and have had some health issues," Mrs Northey said.

"We have eight kids and we just wanted a straight- forward will, to avoid any arguments if something were to happen.

"It has just lifted that weight off our shoulders and gives you that feeling of things being done."

The will day at Shellharbour was part of an ongoing program being run at various NSW Salvation Army centres.
