Adam was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in late 2013, aged 30. His father and uncle died of MND when they were aged in their 50s.
MND is a terminal neurological disease that causes death between 1-5 years after diagnoses. For every person diagnosed research states that at least 14 people are negatively effected.
An estimated 19,000 people currently have MND in Australia. The incidence of this disease is increasing every year.
The Ice Bucket Challenge asks participants to upload a video online of themselves pouring a bucket of ice water over their heads, or donating money and nominating friends to do the same.
Since a host of celebrities, politicians and public figures have taken up the challenge, more than $100million has been raised in the US and more than $700,000 in Australia since July.
On Friday the Flinders family: Adam, his wife Kylie and children Ciara and Ajai were on hand to do the ice honours as the Kiama Independent and Lake Times staff took the challenge.
David Hall, Brendan Crabb, Eliza Winkler and Kerrielyn Clark faced the music and donated to Adam's fund-raising cause - the Regal Regiment.
Ajai, who had been nominated by a school friend, also took up the challenge on the day.
"We were just happy to help the Regals anyway we could,'' Mrs Clark said.
"Before the challenge few knew\ow serious, debilitating and devastating Motor Neurone Disease is.
"Now you'd be hard pushed to find someone who doesn't. That can only be a good thing.''
The Regal Regiment and Rally for the Regals have several events coming up including entering a team in the Sydney Running Festival in September 21, Rock for the Regals at the Kiama Leagues Club on October 24 and a major fundraiser organised by Oak Flats Lions Club at The Shellharbour Club on November 1.
