About 12.50am on Saturday, August 23 police attended an alleged assault in Mary Street, Shellharbour.
It is alleged that a 53-year-old and 25-year-old male were assaulted after they intervened in what appeared to be another assault taking place.
The victims approached a group of two males and a female who were allegedly fighting on the street when they were assaulted themselves.
Both victims were conveyed to Shellharbour Hospital with minor injuries.
A 22-year-old and 23-year-old male were arrested by police at the scene and conveyed to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
They were both charged with affray, and granted conditional bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on September 24.
Police are conducting further enquires and public assistance is requested for any witnesses to the incident.
Located firearm Albion Park Rail
About 8pm on August 23, police stopped a vehicle travelling south along the Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail due to the driver using his mobile phone while driving.
After speaking to the driver and passenger police formed some suspicion in relation to the vehicle and its occupants.
The vehicle was searched and located in the boot area was a shotgun and a quantity of shotgun ammunition.
As a result the driver was arrested and conveyed to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
The 40-year-old male from Blackbutt was subsequently charged with possess unregistered prohibited firearm and possess ammunition without licence, and granted conditional bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on August 27.
Serious injury at Oak Flats
About 4.20pm on Friday, August 22 three unregistered trail bikes were travelling along Parkes Street, Oak Flats when they entered the intersection of Moore Street.
One of the cycles subsequently collided heavily with a black utility travelling along Moore Street, resulting in the rider and pillion passenger being thrown from the cycle.
The rider was 16-years-old and the pillion was 17-years-old.
Both suffered injuries and were conveyed to Wollongong Hospital for treatment.
The South Region Crash Investigation Unit is conducting enquiries in relation to the accident and request public assistance for any witnesses to the accident.
Drug warning for Warilla man
At 2pm on August 24, police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle parked behind an abandoned building of the Catholic Church car park situated off King Street, Warilla.
Police attended and approached the accused man, who was in the front passenger seat of the car.
The accused was asked if there was anything in the car that was illegal.
At that time the accused pulled out a plastic box containing cannabis from the glove box. Both the accused and driver were asked to exit the vehicle, to which they complied.
The vehicle and occupants were then searched.
The accused made full admissions to possession of the cannabis.
The drug was seized and the accused man was issued with a Cannabis Caution Notice.
Injured Paraglider at Port Kembla
On Monday, August 25 about 3.20pm a 27-year-old Warilla man jumped off Hill 60, Port Kembla with his paraglider parachute and proceeded to soar overhead for about 40 minutes.
The victim is a certified paraglider with little more than one year’s experience.
The victim planned to land on Fishermans Beach, and proceeded to set up the flight to do so.
However, he turned too tight and landed hard on the sandy beach.
The victim realised contacted friends, while a passing paramedic stopped to assist and called for an ambulance.
Police and ambulance arrived and with the help of a 4WD Special Operations Ambulance Team the victim was conveyed to Wollongong Hospital.
The victim suffered a fractured right ankle.
KFC restaurant damage
Police are also seeing information from the public in relation to malicious damage done to a KFC restaurant at Tongarra Road, Albion Park.
Between 11pm on Sunday, August 24 and 8am on Monday, August 25, unknown persons used unknown means to maliciously damage two concrete electrical coverings on the business grounds.
This resulted in an estimated $4000 worth of damage.
Letterbox vandalism
A 78-year-old Kiama man was the victim of vandalism to the $300 letterbox at his Marsden Street property last weekend.
The victim reports that about 2am on Saturday, he looked outside his window and saw several silhouettes on the street outside the front of his home.
The following morning, the victim realised his aluminium letterbox had been stolen.
It appears the post to which the letterbox was attached was bent and snapped off, leaving only a short piece of aluminium post and concrete base.
Neighbours were unable to provide any further information.
Meanwhile, police also reported incidents of vandalism and theft of letterboxes in Boanyo and Gwinganna streets, Kiama last Saturday.
