Often people are not thinking about the range of carer services available in our city until they are faced with making decisions relating to a loved one.
The council provides a list of services that offer activities and support for the community as well as carer respite services.
Services include garden maintenance, in-home support, monitoring and planned respite.
Volunteers play an integral role in the range of services provided by the council and new members are always welcome. For information call the HACC Centre at Albion Park on 4257 9036.
With spring just around the corner, the council is working with local primary and preschools to teach children about water safety.
Children have been enjoying the interactive games that help them to understand how to be safe when they are near public and private pools and at the beach. To have a council lifeguard visit, contact Learn to Swim Co-ordinator Michelle Humphries on 4256 0752.
We are now calling for nominations from eligible groups to apply for a portion of the proceeds from the annual Australia Day Breakfast by the Lake which will be held at Reddall Reserve on January 26. This is a fantastic council initiative that involves volunteer groups to make the breakfast that the community enjoys during the morning of Australia Day.
All the money raised is split between the volunteer organisations involved and a list of charity groups for which we are now seeking applications.
Last year the total amount raised was $12,000. Applications close on Friday, August 29, so go to the council's website for more information or phone 4221 6111.
The $350,000 installation of new sports field lights at Albion Oval, Albion Park Rail has been completed, with the computerised setup for the lighting controls now being finalised. This is an excellent result for the sports groups that rely on this facility.
The next Community Safety Pop Up meeting will be held 2.30pm-3.30pm at Hippisley Park, Oak Flats, next to the Oak Flats Neighbourhood Centre. Everyone is welcome to take this opportunity to have a chat with council officers and Lake Illawarra police officers, and talk about matters relating to community safety and crime prevention.
