Mr Jenkins, 35, a volunteer firefighter with the Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade, was one of 20 RFS volunteers from throughout the Illawarra to take part in a World’s Greatest Shave event at Stockland Shellharbour on Saturday.
The event raised money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The Gerringong resident’s last haircut was ten years ago, and had also had dreadlocks for the past six years.
He joked that his ‘‘cold’’ new look had relieved him of some previous neck pain.
‘‘It’s good though, and been a good experience,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s quite literally a weight off my shoulders, to the tune of about half a kilo.
‘‘It’s been a very humbling experience to see how much was donated to the whole team.
‘‘This was the right cause to do it for.
‘‘I’ve had team members with other forms of cancer, and the Leukaemia Foundation helps both children and adults.
‘‘This means they can continue to provide the service for free to leukaemia sufferers and their families.’’
About 20 Illawarra volunteers, known as the Hot Heads, have already raised more than $6500, with funds still being collated.
This surpassed their initial goal of $5000.
