August, 15 marks the day World War II ended and the victory of allied forces in the Pacific.  VP Day commemorates Japan’s acceptance of the Allied demand for unconditional surrender and for Australians, it meant that the Second World War was finally over.

More than 50 members of the sub branch, local schools, community groups and community members attended the service and wreath placing at the War Memorial at Albion Park RSL on Friday last week.

Albion Park Sub branch president, Brian McGrath said it was a day to remember the fallen men and women from past and present conflicts.

“We will commemorate those lost in this conflict but also current conflicts,” Mr McGrath said.

“We have a range of people in our branch that served in conflicts from World War II through to current conflicts and we have a variety of local individuals and groups involved in today’s service.

“I proudly say that our branch is a really great service. We attract a lot of people who have served from all over the region and our Anzac service is the biggest in the area.”
