Rotary Club of Kiama
At a recent meeting we were pleased to welcome David Young, president of the Kiama Show Society, who outlined the history of the show, since 1849.
In 1905 the show introduced a new breed of cattle, the Illawarra Shorthorn. During World War I the showground was used as a military camp. In the 1930s announcements were made over a public address system for the first time and in 1946 the event was called the Kiama Victory Show in honour of the end of World War II.
For more information on the history of the show or how to become a show member, please contact Sue on 4233 1597.
At our last board meeting it was decided that we will go ahead with another race day at Kembla Grange next year. It is likely to be on May 9. We are anticipating that the event will be held in partnership with another club or charity.
See you at the markets on Sunday, August 17, come and try one (or more) of our delicious doughnuts.
Keep the date of Sunday, September 14, free - the hot rod show will be returning to Kiama and we will be hosting them once again on Black Beach.
Just an early reminder to keep September 6 free for our next Rainbow Fashion Parade. Gather at 1pm for a 1.30pm start at the CWA Hall, Shoalhaven St.
Our next monthly meeting is on Tuesday, August 19, 11am for social time, BYO lunch and 1.30pm for our business meeting which is our branch agriculture/environmental day.
All welcome. The CWA hall is available for hire. Contact Ruth Cole on 4232 4963.
