WITH the regular season winding up and semi-finals just around the corner, Nowra and Albion Park u6 teams were on equal points on the competition ladder with just the differential separating the two teams and putting Nowra in fourth spot. Nowra had trained well all week after having a week off for the bye and knew how important this game was for them in securing their position on the competition ladder.
Both teams started well showcasing some great defence and attack.
Nowra were making some good ground through their forwards with Rodney Davis- Stewart, Zack Kelly and Liam Ping-Nam all making several strong runs.
Nowra opened the scoring through Anthony Wellington after he had forced an error, regathered the ball and showed a clean pair of heels running 40 metres to score untouched.
David Carpenter converted the try and Nowra Led 6-nil.
Nowra continued to play well in attack and defence and were forcing Albion Park backwards with great attacking plays and solid defence.
Nowra looked to have scored again with Kaleb Stewart going to the line and putting Jonah Longbottom through a hole with a great pass after Jonah had run a good line.
However, as Jonah was putting the ball down it was dislodged and the try was disallowed for a knock-on.
Nowra seem to drop their heads after the dropped ball and Albion Park scored from the next attacking set to level the scores.
Nowra continued to battle on hard throughout the game, however found it hard to get back into the game.
Nowra never gave up and tried to the end, but Albion Park ran out winners 30-6. Although Nowra did not come away with the win, they played hard and fair.
All players played well and showed great sportsmanship and teamwork, with Rodney Davis-Stewart, William Braddick, Anthony Wellington, Liam Ping-Nam, Kaleb Stewart and Jonah Longbottom among the standout players.
A special mention to Liam Ping-Nam as he put in his best performance of the season with some strong runs and solid defence.
