With the support of family and friends, the couple rallied and took part in the City To Surf race, raising more than $7000 for the charity ‘Bears of Hope’ who provide support for families who have lost an infant either during or after pregnancy.
“They were a tremendous help to us in a very difficult time and we decided we wanted to give something back and were thrilled with the result,” Brittney Whittaker said.
“We had 12 adults and two children in the event last years and will have around that number again this year.
“For every $45 we raise a family who is in a similar position as we found ourselves in when Archie passed away gets a cute ‘Bear of Hope’ on behalf of Lachlan, myself and our family – you can imagine how many that was last year.
The couple have since welcomed seven-month-old Ivy to the family.
“She is very special – last year I was pregnant with Ivy, so Lachlan had to push me in a wheelchair, but this year I will be joining the run, once again with around 12 family and friends.”
Bears Of Hope Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support provides leading support and exceptional care for families who experience the loss of their baby.
They seek to provide crucial information and embrace families during their difficult time of loss, and beyond. There are two key elements to our program that guide families through their choices when saying Hello and Goodbye to their much loved baby.
