In an effort to bring down that percentage, University of Wollongong student, Celeste Coltman is seeking women throughout the region to participate in her study on bra fit and breast support.
“If you don’t have bra problems yourself, you have a friend who does,” Ms Coltman said.
“I am looking at breast characteristics of Australian woman of all body and bra sizes, and using that data for my PHD study.
“The study will look at fitting all different types of women with the correct bra for their breast size, with the overall aim of improving bra design, information and fit.
“Wearing the incorrect bra size can lead to posture problems, muscular skeletal problems and decrease in exercise participation in many women.”
Ms Coltman will be at the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre in Warilla for six weeks from August 8 seeking the participation of Shellharbour women for the study.
Centre co-ordinator Diane Frohmuller said many women in the centre had shown interest in the study.
“We deal with a whole range of women’s health issues and a lot of the ladies that visit the centre are interested in taking part,” Ms Forhmuller said.
“This will add another element to the range of things we do for women’s health.”
Over the six weeks Ms Coltman will hold one-hour sessions at the Warilla centre with each of the participants.
Ms Coltman will also visit other health centres in Wollongong and other parts of NSW with the aim of having 500 women participate in the study.
