The NRMA is launching its Seeing Red on Roads campaign and asking Illawarra motorists to vote for the roads they find most frustrating.
In the wake of NSW and Federal budget announcements on road funding, the NRMA is asking all motorists to voice their opinion by voting for the local roads which aggravate them the most.
In the 2013 Seeing Red on Roads Illawarra campaign, residents voted the Princes Highway at Albion Park Rail, Picton Road, the Illawarra Highway, the Princes Motorway (formerly F6 Freeway) and Jamberoo Mountain Road as the top five worst roads.
Local motorists said the main issues were congestion, too many traffic lights and not enough lanes.
Drivers throughout the Illawarra region are invited to “red flag” the road they find most frustrating, on the interactive map which can be found at mynrma.com.au/redflag.
NRMA local Director Michael Tynan said that while the NRMA was pleased with the success of the campaign, a lot of work remained to be done, particularly in the Illawarra region.
“Following the launch of the first Seeing Red on Roads campaign four years ago, we have seen commitments from the State and Federal Government towards fixing some of the most dangerous roads in NSW,” Mr Tynan said.
“While we welcome the $42 million allocated in the 2013 Federal Budget for additional lanes on the F6 and we are thrilled that the NSW Government has committed planning money for the F6 extension, more funding is still needed for other sections of the road to ensure that traffic is able to flow, particularly for those who regularly commute to and from Sydney.
“With the community’s support of this year’s Seeing Red on Roads campaign, we can help ensure the Illawarra region gets better, safer roads.”
Voting will remain open until August 31, to vote go to mynrma.com.au/redflag
