Latest on name for new "Dunmore" station

THE ongoing saga surrounding the naming of the South Coast line's newest train station could soon be over.

Currently under construction, the $39 million station is north of the existing Dunmore Station, which it will replace once it is complete.

Though the project is expected to be finished by the end of the year, the naming of the station has not been smooth sailing, with the Geographical Names Board so far rejecting Flinders and Shell Cove as names for the station.

The third proposed name, Shellharbour Junction, was put forward by Transport for NSW last week and the board has approved it to go out for public consultation until August 18, after which a final decision on the name will be made, depending on feedback received during the consultation period.

Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website at gnb.nsw.gov.au.

Written submissions should be addressed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Avenue, Bathurst, NSW, 2795.
