ONE of the biggest gatherings of public school students in the Illawarra will take place during Education Week when five schools from the Kiama area join together for a picnic in the park on Thursday.

The event takes place between 10am and 1.30pm, to celebrate public education.
More than 1500 students and 1000 parents and citizens will descend on Hindmarsh Park for Celebrating Public Education in the Park, the second year the event has taken place.
Minamurra Public School Principal, Warren Grosse, said the event provided a way to display to the public the many wonderful elements that are associated with attending a public school.
“The schools that make up the Kiama Learning Community are proud of their students and their achievements in not only the traditional educational side of schooling but also the sense of community, the inclusiveness, and the values they represent and promote,” Mr Grosse said.
“We will be showcasing our many talented students and more importantly promoting the community values that flow through our wonderful schools.
“The Kiama Learning Community of Schools boasts highly successful results that are above the national average consistently.
Students from Kiama High School, Kiama Public School, Gerringong Public School, Jamberoo Public School and Minnamurra Public School will take part in a range of activities from Indonesian singing, dancing, band and choir performances as well as putting on plays and skits and a flash-dance routine.
“It was extremely well received last year with a huge crowd turning out to celebrate public education in the Kiama area and we expect an even bigger gathering this year.”
