Coming off a 32-0 loss to Berry last weekend, the Dogs will be hoping to put up a good performance against arch rivals Albion Park who are running third last on the ladder and, ironically, have been victors in their last two outings. One of their scalps, is that of leaders Warilla, who had previously been undefeated.
On Sunday a win by the Dogs could see them avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.
Last Sunday, Berry who have struck a purple patch of mid season form, outclassed the Bulldogs at Berry Showground. The Bulldogs were down 14-0 at half time and never really got into the game. The Bulldogs dominated early possession but were struggling to complete their sets.
The home team were smart with the ball and Rory McCall, a newcomer on the flank, showed some class to get on the outside of his opponent to cross first.
Josh Coulter using a clever grubber kick which saw it mishandled by the Milton defence, and he took the score to 8-0.
Just on half time, Berry coach Trent Burns, crashed over near the sticks, with Coulter making the conversion and the half time tally 10-0.
The Bulldogs could not control the opening kick off and Joe Rogers crossed for Coulter to convert.
The Bulldogs had a run of possession after the 50th minute and poor last passes and dropped ball again saw them scoreless.
Berry, through Rogers, scored again on the hour. He crossed wide out with several Milton defenders dropping off. Coulter added a third conversion and Berry went to 26-0.
In the 65th minute Milton again tried to sustain a strong attack and get on the board but Berry's defence held. Whilst the Bulldogs could not find a way over, Berry's consistent Josh Ingold dived over from dummy half, with Coulter adding to his tally.
For Berry, Rogers Ingold and Burns were strong and, for Milton-Ulladulla, Warburton, Goodman and Travers never stopped trying.
Berry 26 (tries Rogers 2, McCall, Burns, Josh Coulter Try each Josh Coulter 6 goals)
Milton Ulladulla 0.
Reserve Grade
Milton Ulladulla Reserve Grade had a well-earned win over Berry on Sunday, Albion Park went down to Kiama last weekend and that loss has found them in fifth position.
Milton Ulladulla, coming off the win at Berry, could force APOF out of the top five with a win. Both teams have something to play for and this game should be a thriller.
Tom and Will Ray, Josh Pender, James Little, Dan Beauchamp and Ben Evans have been consistent all year and coach Owen Dredge will be looking to them to lead Milton Ulladulla to victory in this one.
Berry were just above Milton on the ladder and the win last week saw Milton overtake Berry.
This game on Saturday will start at 4pm.
Milton Ulladulla 22 (J Little, M Cook, W Ray, D Dray tries, T Alcorn 3 goals) Berry Magpies 12 (M Kelly, J Knight and J McPherson tries).
Under 18s
Milton Ulladulla Under 18s put up a herculean performance against the competition leaders at Berry last Sunday. The Dogs went down 32-28 in a hard fought tussle.
This weekend the Dogs will be faced with a challenge of equal dimensions when they will take on second placed APOF at Bill Andriske Oval. This match up could well be the Match of the Day.
The Dogs really need to win this one, to stay in touch with the top five sides. A win by the Dogs and a loss by Shellharbour would see Milton one point out of the five. The game on Saturday will start at 2.30pm.
Berry Magpies 32 (D Buchanan, J Milne, B Gilbert, C Saunders, J Gould, T Burns tries, T Gibbs 4 goals; Milton Ulladulla 28 (T Clarke 2, R Roberts, H Grundy, P Adams, L Smith tries, N Brown 4 goals).
Women’s League Tag
This round of matches saw the WLTs remain at the top of the table, with an easy win over Berry.
Ebony Murray of Milton Ulladulla still leads the SC Group 7 top point scorers in all grades with 156.
Kirsty Church featured in Kiama’s convincing win over APOF at 38-8. Church scored a try and kicked five goals in Kiama's win bringing her closer to Murray with 142.
Milton Ulladulla kept Berry scoreless in the game at Berry Showground. Milton won 14-0, with two tries to T Love, one to Andriske and a goal to Little.
Last week saw Kiama defeat APOF in the play off for second place. The defeat of APOF saw them relegated to third place, with Kiama holding second.
