SCORE a strike and raise money for children’s charities at the same time in August.

A fund-raising event will be held in August at Shellharbour Tenpin Bowl to help raise funds for Ronald McDonald House and the Leukaemia Foundation.

The two charities provide various services and support to children diagnosed with leukaemia and other blood cancers, as well as their families.

They also pour funding into research, awareness, education and support programs for both the patient and their family.

Ronald McDonald House provides ‘home-away-from-home’ for families of children with serious illness, along with the support of experienced house managers, volunteers and other families in a similar situation.

Event co-ordinator Chris Evans said the event was sparked by a regular bowler’s grandson, who had been recently diagnosed with leukaemia.

“It originally started off as a small event, with just a few families but it has since gotten bigger and bigger,” he said.

“The event will help us raise money for both charities, that help families and children throughout the country in these situations and generate awareness about the conditions.

“The two charities get funding throughout the year from different events, but the bowling day will really help to boost that at a time of year when they may not get a lot of funding.”

Mr Evans said the goal for the day was to raise $10,000 for each charity.

“On the day we will have a raffle, an auction, barbecue, live entertainment, live DJ, market stalls and games of bowling as well,” he said.

The event will take place on August 17 from 10am-3pm at Shellharbour Tenpin Bowl, located at 12 Sunset Avenue, Warilla.
