What was expected to be a close affair turned out to be an easy win for the students, with Simon Beaton returning to the line-up and leading his team to a good win.

Illawarra clinched the NSW State Over-40s title at Newcastle, beating Sydney 2-0 in a tough final; goals came from David Rieck and Jon Marr.
In the semi-final Illawarra beat Parkes 2-1 in a close match, with goals from Rieck and Brent Wilsmore. In the pool matches, after an early loss to Newcastle 2-0, the team regrouped to beat Orange 2-0, Far North Coast 1-0 and Macarthur 3-0 to place second in their pool and take a spot in the semis.
