Larissa was one of 40 students to receive a Colombo Plan Scholarship, which provides up to $67,000 in funding for students.
Larissa is a Social Science Dean Scholar student planning a career as an early childhood teacher, which will be flown to Hong Kong to further her studies. As part of the program Larissa will be involved in work placement during the Autumn 2015 intake.
Larissa said the study and work skills she would gain in Hong Kong would be extremely beneficial to her employment opportunities and ability to work in a changing environment.
“I am passionate about Early Childhood education as I believe that quality teaching within the first five years provides the best possible foundation for a child’s future life and learning,” she said.
As the first student of teacher education at UOW to do a full exchange in an Asian country Larissa said she hopes to set a foundation for future students following the same path.
The scholarship program is an initiative of the Australian Government that aims to increase knowledge of the Indo Pacific in Australia and strengthen industrial and community relationships.
An awards dinner was held in June where each of the recipients were presented with their scholarship certificates.
