According to the council, better-than-expected weather meant the 650-metre extension along Swamp Road towards Jamberoo ended up being extended to one kilometre and finished earlier than anticipated.
The latest work has extended the shared pathway, which winds alongside Minnamurra River from Henry Parkes Drive at Kiama Downs closer towards Browns Lane outside Jamberoo.
Kiama Bicycle Users Group's former president and current member John Tomlinson said cyclists could now venture off the road, and instead ride and enjoy the scenery.
Mr Tomlinson is also a former member of the council's cycleways and walkways committee.
"We've been working on this for a long while," he said.
"It gives cyclists a safe option. Less experienced riders who aren't game to ride with the cars, it gives them a place to ride, and is good for the kids as well."
The council aims to eventually extend the cycleway right to Jamberoo and is in discussions with landowners to do so.
The project began in 2009.
