The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning with winds up to 80km/h, and peak gusts up to 110km/h, predicted for Tuesday in the Illawarra and South Coast.
But expect a strong cold front from Monday.
A marine wind warning has also been issued for the region.
The State Emergency Service has advised people to secure loose objects in their backyards and on balconies; move vehicles out of the way of potentially unsafe trees and; keep clear of fallen power lines.
