Brrr... batten down, strong winds coming.

THE weather is going to take a decidedly nasty turn in coming days with strong winds and icy temperatures.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning with winds up to 80km/h, and peak gusts up to 110km/h, predicted for Tuesday in the Illawarra and South Coast.

But expect a strong cold front from Monday.

A marine wind warning has  also been issued for the region.

The State Emergency Service has advised people to secure loose objects in their backyards and on balconies; move vehicles out of the way of potentially unsafe trees and; keep clear of fallen power lines.

For help, call the SES on 132 500.

The good news is that the weather will bring snowfalls.
