Kiama folk opened their hearts, and wallets accordingly, to help the Heffernans have some time off work while young Dexter has treatment for cancer.
Organiser Michelle Scotford was overwhelmed with how the event went.
When she first started planning the fund-raiser Michelle was hoping to raise in the vicinity of $10,000 to $15,000.
With final numbers still to be tallied, she said it looked like they would have more than $40,000, something she said she could never have foreseen.

Well done also to Kiama Tourism for taking out the award for best Visitor Information Services, for an impressive third time in a row at the South Coast Tourism Award, announced last week.
Congratulations, too, to the hard working staff at Jamberoo Pub for being named best Tourist Pub and highly commended in the Standard Accommodation category. Also, well done to Erica Warren, who won Outstanding Contribution by an Individual.
With tourism as Kiama's bread and butter, the South Coast Tourism Awards really are a great yardstick for operators to establish what we're doing well and where we can do better.
The awards are good chance for us to check out the competition on the South Coast and make sure that Kiama stays a great place to show off to visitors.
