Nowra Bomaderry outclass Milton Ulladulla
The ExServos Milton Ulladulla side were never in the game at Bill Andriske Oval last Sunday.
In the round one deferred game, which was washed out on March 30, the Jets outclassed the Bulldogs in all facets of the game.
Milton had no excuses, although they were without their captain and co coach Gary Warburton, who represented Group 7 the previous day, and AJ Hatch a stand out three quarter, was also unavailable.
The Jets led 32/6 at half time and, the loyal and faithful on the hill at Mollymook Oval, thought their charges were looking at a clean sheet.
It was in the dying minutes of the first half that Mitch Freeman crossed for the locals, for Luke Young to convert. Prior to this, the game was all Jets, who had rattled up 32 points.
Flying winger Mark Brandon had crossed in the fifth minute, for Kurt Quinlan to convert and gain an early lead for the visitors.
Fullback Isaac Mumberson, taking advantage of some loose defence in the middle, crossed out wide for Quinlan to miss the conversion.
It was clear that Milton were missing Gary Warburton's defensive efforts in the middle and the bigger Nowra forwards looked to be getting on top of their lightweight opponents.
In the 11th minute, former Milton Ulladulla player Geoff Johnston went over, after a searching run in centre field, for Quinlan to convert.
Only six minutes later, Steve Brandon on the left wing and brother of Mark, was in for Quinlan to convert again and give the Jets a comfortable 22-point lead.
Six minutes later, it was replacement player John Carey to score, for Quinlan to convert again.
With the Jets margin of 28 unanswered points looking unassailable, after a dust up, referee William Drury dismissed Steve Brandon and despatched Milton player Matt Cooke to the Sin Bin. Being a man short did not faze the Jets and it was their centre Nick Falzon who crossed in the 32nd minute, with Quinlan missing the shot.
Milton looked like opening their account in the 38th minute but a poor pass from Sommerville saw Piekar drop the ball with the line wide open. Mitch Freeman soon after scored for Luke Young to convert, which gave the visitors a 32/6 half time lead.
After half time Milton came out firing, with Kieren Roughly making a 70-metere dash and, it was Mitch Freeman who capitalised for Luke Young, to miss the conversion and give the Bulldogs 10 points.
Apart from a converted try to Nick Goodman on the half hour, the second half was all the Jets. Mark Brandon, Kieran Brandon, Isaac Mumberson and goal kicker Kurt Quinlan scored tries with Quinlan converting two.
The Milton forward pack tried all day but were outweighed by their opponents and were forced into error on many occasions, which gave the Jets a larger share of possession and the ability to complete their sets.
Nowra's outside backs have speed to burn and will worry a lot of teams as the year unfolds.
Best for Nowra were Mumberson, Mark Brandon and Kieran Brandon and, for Milton, Tom Cook, Kieran Roughly and Lachie Moore.
Nowra Bomaderry Jets 52 (Tries - Isaac Mumberson, Keiran Brandon, Mark Brandon 2; Nathan Falzon, Steve Brandon, Geoff Johnston, Kurt Quinlan I each and Kurt Quinlan 3 Goals), Milton Ulladulla 16 (Tries - Mitch Freeman 2, Nick Goodman 1 and Luke Young 2 Goals).
Reserve Grade
The Bulldogs Reserve Grade side ground out their best win of the season at Bill Andriske on Sunday
In the absence of non playing coach Owen Dredge, the Bulldogs put in their best effort for the season, to stay in touch with the front runners in the South Coast Group 7 competition. They did not have their line crossed and scored four unanswered tries.
The only blemish was that none of the tries were converted.
Milton's line up was Will Ray, Damien Dray , Jimmy Little, Nathan Hampton Olive, Corey Whitaker, Josh Pender, Khy Whitford, Dam Beachamp, Tommy Ray, Jacob Hemsworth, Matt Williams, Paul Ardler Scott D'Ombrain, Ben Evans, Mitch Addison, Blaze Dunn-Steele, Nathan Ridley, Dale Hammond and Tim Cooper.
The game was a tough encounter, with neither side giving an inch.
The score was probably not a true indication of the game however Milton Ulladulla led 12/0 at half time and, they held their opponents scoreless in the second half, with Jimmy Little's second try the only points scored in the second half.
Jesse Piekar had been elevated to First Grade and it was Little who controlled the game from the left centre position.
Front Rower Dan Beachamp had a powerful game and was well supported by Tommy Ray, Matt Williams, Paul Ardler and Scott D'Ombrain.
Josh Pender was good a five eighth and Hampton Olive did not take a backward step.
Milton winger Corey Whittaker scored the opening points with a try in the ninth minute, with Pender missing the kick.
Nowra were always in the game but Milton's defence kept their line in tact all day.
Captain Jimmy Little went in for his first try after 16 minutes, with Hampton Olive taking the shot without success.
Ten minutes later tough Paul Ardler crossed for Milton wide out and Hampton Olive's kick hit the upright and rebounded.
The Bulldogs went in at half time with a 12/0 lead.
The second half became even tougher with Walter Stewart sent off for a misguided use of an elbow.
Milton Ulladulla's half back Khy Whitford was the victim and, playing a man short, reduced Nowra Bomaderry's chances of getting back into the game.
Nowra's forwards tried all day and were led by Tim O'Connell, Mitch Ryan, James Presland, Ken Ivers, Andrew Williams and Tom Berry.
The week off will let the players recover from niggling injuries and allow them to freshen up for the big clash against Shellharbour, at Mollymook, on June 1.
The injured Scott Webb managed the Milton Ulladulla bench in the absence of coach Dredge.
Best for Milton were Jimmy Little, Nathan Hampton-Olive and Dan Beauchamp; for Nowra, none tried harder than Jared Sturgeon, Keldon McLachlan, Mitch Ryan and James Presland.
Milton Ulladulla 16 (Tries - James Little 2, Corey Whittaker and Paul Ardler 1 each)
Nowra Bomaderry 0.
Women's League Tag
Frontrunners, the Milton Ulladulla WLT team, put in another scintillating performance on Sunday, to defeat arch rivals Nowra Bomaderry Jets 42 /8. This team is full of speed and ball handling skills and will continue to worry most teams in the competition.
The round eight clash between them and Kiama on June 14 will be worth the price of admission alone.
As in their previous outing against Warilla, which they won 48/6, again they did not allow the Jets into the game at any stage. They held the Jets to a try in each half and amassed 42 points with mistake free play and completing almost all of their sets.
The improving Emma Hayes duelled in the scoring along with Cheyenne Hatch, Amy Austin and Ebony Murray.
The other try scorer was Taryn Love who made an 80-metre dash down the western touch line nine minutes after half time, to score under the posts. This was the turning point in the game, as Nowra appeared to drop their bundle after this demoralising effort.
Ebony Murray amassed 14 points for the day with her two tries and three conversions.
For Kiama, Belinda Chittleborough and Belinda Little scored tries.
Milton Ulladulla's round eight game in four grades against Kiama Knights has been put back to Saturday, June 14, with Milton Ulladulla's next home game at Bill Andriske Oval on Sunday, June 1.
Under 18s
Last Saturday the Bulldogs Under 18s stayed in top five contention, with a hard fought win over Batemans Bay Tigers 54/32. The game was played at McKay Park Batemans Bay.
Down 20/18 at half time, the Bulldogs came back in the second half holding the Bay to 12 points and adding 36 points to their own total.
Nathan Browne was a stand out, converting every try that his team scored.
Rory Smith scored four tries, River Roberts two and Jarrod Jackson, Wade Walker and Tyler Clark, a try each.
Up and coming referee Wade Walker refereed three games of junior rugby league at Ulladulla Sports Park on Saturday morning, before he made the trip the Batemans Bay.
Paul Love and his coaching team adjudged the Best and Fairest to Rory Smith 3, River Roberts 2 and Tyler Clark 1.
