Remember in the late naughties when digging up old Doc Marten boots was sah subversive? Bringing the shoe back into style was a combination of the usual factors that craft a trend, well, trendy: newness, runway placement, celebrity endorsement, undertones of irony and a touch of nostalgia. Mules
Chunky, awkward and the natural evolution of Anna Wintour’s Manolo Blanik slingbacks, mules are big news thanks to Céline’s SS14 catwalk and the unyielding 90s redux. With more comfort than stilettos and the right balance of gauche/ elegance, these bad boys are well worth the investment. Even if it may not be long-term.
Timberlands
Where do you go after wearing the (ubiquitous) Marant sneaker wedge to death? Well, actually, neither sneakers nor wedges. Consider Timberlands this winter’s pièce de résistance for any delicately ‘un-styled’ ensemble—you know, the kinds that take three hours to polish. Whet your appetite with a Google of ‘Beyoncé Jay Z Timberlands’ and finish the indulgence with a pair and brand-new denims ready to go.
Flatform Peep Toes
A bit Robyn, a bit Spice Girl and ideally covered in a lot of leather. Combining the beloved flatform (don’t pretend you’re not charmed!) with soles your podiatrist would approve, the platform peep toe is most effectively styled with peg trousers or soft pastel pieces. Patterned socks also a viable option, just in case you want to dabble (but not jump!) into the boundless waters of #normcore.
