About 80 people took part in the Leukaemia Foundation fund-raiser, which at the time of going to press had raised $41,000, with more promises to be collected.
"It was a complete blow away," Fownes said. "I originally put my target at $5000 and by the time all funds are collected we will have raised around $45,000. I really can't believe the response.
"It was a great day for the whole community. We had shaving, some of the kids had their hair coloured and all in all it was a great day.
"But I can tell you that there are some pretty crook looking heads around at the moment.
"Gerringong looks like it could be the scene of the Romper Stomper II movie."
Fownes, whose 26-year-old brother Luke passed away from leukaemia in October, said he hoped the shave would become an annual event.
